The route

Across the border, under Mont Blanc.

Leave Geneva via the A40 Autoroute Blanche, clear the French border at Bardonnex, and follow the Arve upstream. Sallanches, then Les Houches, then the valley floor opens and the Aiguille du Midi fills the windscreen. We drop you at the door — Chamonix, Argentière, Le Tour, whichever hamlet you’re staying in.

Good to know for Chamonix.

Cross-border

This is a French destination — passport or national ID is mandatory for every passenger. We remind you in the booking confirmation.

Winter conditions

November to April we run studded winter tyres and carry chains. The Mont-Blanc tunnel occasionally closes; fallback routes via Col des Montets are planned in.

Best pickup times

Saturday 09:00–11:00 is the French transfer peak. A 07:00 pickup arrives before the queues at Sallanches.

Currency & tolls

Your driver covers all tolls in both currencies — you’ll see a single CHF or EUR charge on the receipt, your pick.

Route FAQ

Asked about this route.

Do I need a passport?

Yes — France requires a passport or valid national ID card for every passenger, including children. We can’t board anyone without one.

What happens if the border is slow?

Peak-season Saturdays can add 10–20 minutes at Bardonnex. We monitor live border data and leave earlier on busy dates at no extra charge.

Can you pick up from Chamonix village and return to Geneva?

Yes. Return pickups are free from any Chamonix address and book together with the outbound leg for a −8% discount.

Do you cross the Mont-Blanc tunnel?

Not for this route — we stop at Chamonix. Onward transfers to Courmayeur, Aosta or Turin are available on request and priced per km.
